Almighty: Kill Your Gods has just released into early access on Steam. But quite honestly it shouldn't have. I followed the development of this with great interest and had high hopes, but this just should't have been released yet. It's a truly awful mess and no where near ready, even for early access.
My initial experience from first play was the game crashing within 3 minutes of starting the tutorial. Then the graphics glitched out, again in the tutorial, but after a second restart I was able to access the main game. Graphically, in motion, the game looks way worse than any given screenshot. It's incredibly janky, with wildly fluctuating framrates. Running it on i9 10900, 32gb, rtx3080 I had frame rates dip below 40 on a game that looks like it was pulled off a PS2. All this would be somewhat forgivable if the gameplay was there, but again, falls completely flat. As well as looking awful, attacks lack any weight or commitment. Melee combos look like an old man gently petting a dog and ranged attacks are uninspired and ineffective.
Contact with rank and file enemies seems to invoke random physics from the world around you; with some enemies jerking spasmodically and clipping through the ground while others ragdoll off into the distance as if asailed by invisible forces.
This "game" is the biggest disappointment of 2021 for me so far. There is literally no redeeming feature about it in it's current form and I can't recommend even an early access purchase.
It's been rushed out for whatever reason and the result is negative reception and reviews with loss of player engagement.
After such a terrible experience with this, it would take something immensely gamechanging to get me to revisit Almighty: Kill Your Gods.
Avoid !
