"Controller recommended, keyboard supported, mouse forget about it. "
This is the first thing that greets you when booting up Danger Forever which struck me as a bit aggressive but I dismissed it as I thought it might just be the tone the game was made in but I soon realized this was not the case.
Danger Forever is described as a 2.5D scroll-shooter kind of like Panzer Dragoon and Star Fox, and it baffles me why mouse support is not present at all. The game plays like Panzer Dragoon or Star Fox true but where those games had momentum and heft to them, Danger Forever just feels floaty and clunky.
Where Star Fox and Panzer Dragoon have dangerous enemies, Danger Forever seems to only have enemies that have absolutely no A.I. they just go along their way shooting wherever their gun is pointing regardless of the players position and the only time I got any feeling that I was being targeted and attacked was when I faced the first boss, a boring cube with cannons and even then it didn’t feel like he was trying very hard to kill me, resulting in a very easy boss fight but to be fair, it was the first boss and most of the time those are not too hard.
The developers did try to add a bit of tactics to this formula by introducing a heat and energy system. You have a red bar on the left side and a blue bar on the right side, the red bar is the heat meter and the blue bar is the energy meter. When you get hit the heat meter increases and when it reaches the top you die, when you fire your weapons you drain the energy meter, when that reaches zero you can’t fire anymore. The heat meter lowers when not taking hits and the energy meter refills when you pick up blue balls of energy and the balls are usually at weird places, like exactly in front of a cliff or a giant rock, making it difficult to grab and avoid the hazard.
The game just feels half assed and might have been a mobile game at some point though I am not sure about this, it might just be very badly made.
In conclusion avoid completely, this game is not worth your time and money even if it was free to play, I wouldn’t recommend anyone to try it. It might have been just bad with mouse support or even just better controls in general seeing as the controller and keyboard controls are just as bad and clunky.
