Dawn of the Monsters is a fantastic side scrolling, co-op, Kaiju brawler. If you can remember back to games like Rampage or King of the Monsters, think that with a healthy mix of Streets of Rage.
Dawn of the Monsters was created by Canadian developers 13AM Games , published and released by Wayforward on all formats, on 15th March.
Set in a near-future world where gigantic beasts known as Nephilim have invaded Earth, Dawn of the Monsters is a manga-inspired, side-scrolling action game that enlists players as members of DAWN (Defense Alliance Worldwide Network) and allows them to take control of four distinct colossal combatants: Megadon, the living volcano; Ganira, the colossal crustacean; Aegis Prime, a superhuman warrior; and Tempest Galahad, a massive mecha
From their orbital space station, the warriors of DAWN deploy to Nephilim nests around the planet, battling the otherworldly creatures with an arsenal of moves and combos, including powerful Rage abilities (some of which inflict status ailments on foes), devastating Cataclysm Attacks, and savage Execution finishers. Abandoned vehicles and empty skyscrapers become weapons in destructible cityscapes, and DNA Augments earned after each mission let players customize their stats and unlock new perks.
I had the chance to sit down to two lengthy sessions of Dawn of the Monsters (on PS5) and thoroughly enjoyed my time with it.
While it's great art style and Saturday morning cartoon aesthetic really endear the game to any Kaiju fans, it's the gameplay that cements this as solid entertainment. The game further shines when played in co-op.
I still have a lot more to see and unlock and this is a game I will definitely go back to again as a couch co-op favorite.
At $29.99 it's really reasonably priced and well worth picking up on your platform of choice.
