Diablo IV is out for everyone, while some of you may be coming from previous iterations of the hit franchise, there are also going to be an influx new players; not to mention the game has changed quite dramatically since Diablo 3.
So no matter what class you have decided on, here are some useful tidbits going into your first playthrough.
Diablo 4 has many mechanics that can make your game more fun and rewarding if you master them.
You can earn renown points by exploring different zones on the map. These points give you extra skill points, more potions, and other perks. They apply to all your characters.
You can change the world tier to adjust the game's difficulty. You can do this at the World Tier Statue or in the character select menu. Change the difficulty if the game is too easy or hard for you. The world level scales to your character's progress, so you can revisit any area you want.
Look for goblins with treasure bags and kill them for loot (they also show up on your minimap when close enough). Don't let them run away from your attacks. Use stuns and movement focused abilities to close the distance and deal damage.
Use altars of Lilith to get bonuses for all your characters. This makes it easier to start a new character with better stat
Bosses drop health potions when you whittle their health past each of the red triangle markers above their health bar. Plan your potion use accordingly.
Be sure to start any events on the map for quick experience and Obols, a valuable currency.
Obols cap so be sure to check your inventory. The initial cap is 500. Once you hit the cap you won't get anymore, so spend regularly.
Keep an eye out for silent chests, big and shiny containers full of loot. You need whispering keys to open them, which you can get from purveyors of curiosities for Obols.
You can also gamble your Obols on random gear for a specific slot.
You can refund some or all skills for gold to change your build.
You can't refund skills that unlock the next tier, but you can temporarily refund the next tier to tweak and reapply them.
Some gear has aspects—special stats that give extra effects. You can extract aspects at Demyan's Occultist Shop, but this destroys the item in the process.
You can then imprint that aspect onto a new item in exchange for gold and materials.
You can get rare aspects from dungeons. You can also imprint them onto your gear, but most of them are class specific.
Try to make a build that matches your skills. Use the skill filter to plan your build, grouping skills and traits like bone skills, shadow skills, etc.
Upgrade your healing potions at Veroka's Alchemy Shop regularly. This makes your potions more powerful.
Make elixirs at Veroka's Alchemy Shop to boost your stats for 30 minutes and get a 5% experience bonus.
Refine your resources if you need a specific material.
Salvage items instead of selling them to get materials. You get enough gold from enemies, but you always need materials for aspect imprinting.
Salvaging some gear will unlock cosmetic customization options.
Diablo IV has crafting mechanics, so collect ore deposits and herbs around the world.
Currency and collectibles are shared among all your characters. But consumables like keys are not.
Don't bother buying items from vendors, especially early in the game. They are expensive and almost immediately replaced.
Use the shared stash to transfer items between characters.
Change the look of your gear at the wardrobe. Mark unwanted gear as junk to easily identify it before salvaging it at the Blacksmith's house.
On salvage some higher rarity items will also and there cosmetic appearance to your wardrobe.
Above all, explore, experiment with gear, skills and abilities..... Have fun!
