With the cyberpunk 2077 release looming I was thinking about upgrading to the RTX 2080 TI.
For anyone else considering the same, a bit of digging and research has convinced me not to bother and here's why...
For a start the next gen consoles are going to have comparable graphic processing power at half the price. so if you're thinking of investing in one or both of the next gen consoles is probably not worth upgrading to the 2080. Secondly the RTX 2080 TI has proven to be notoriously temperamental with a slew of posts complaining about multiple units having to be returned many times for repair or replacement. Lastly, the 3000 series is due for release before the end of this year, with some reports predicting it may even be September.
3000 series brings micro architecture down to 7nm. The current 2000 series is running with 12 nm. So if we extrapolate the jump in performance from the 1080 to 2080, the subsequent jump to the 3080 should be very impressive.
The final thing to take into consideration is more for people who are really pushing their pc to its maximum and have deep pockets.
Nvidia are going to also be releasing the RTX 3090, which is going to have a whopping 24Gb along with other upgrades from the standard 3080ti.
Yeah looking forward to see what the 3000 series brings to the table regarding performance and price
