Doom and Destiny Worlds Switch review

Doom and Destiny Worlds is the latest entry in a 10 year long franchise of classic rpg games.

Worlds differs sightly in it's scope in that crafting, co-op and open world elements play a pivotal role this time around.

In Worlds, four friends: Mike, Johnny, Francis and Nigel wake along a shoreline with no memory of who they are, or how they got there. You must gather your party, (either solo or up to 4 players in local co-op) venture forth and search for answers.

Worlds is a top down, classic looking pixel RPG, OG Zelda like. You are free to explore it's open world which is comprised of individual biomes in the form of 50+ islands.

The environment is interactive and rife with materials for players to craft items as they level up and embark the long process of character progression.

Combat is Turn-Based, but realtime and works well within the game structure.

The game clocks in at around 40 hours although the grind starts to get a bit repetitive long before that.

There are some notable downsides to the game.

The annoying durability mechanics firstly. Not just in Doom and Destiny Worlds, I find the mechanic an annoying obstacle to fun in almost any game, micromanaging your inventory is just not enjoyable and ruins the flow and escapism of most games.

Humour, as always, is quite subjective and Worlds just isn't funny, to me anyway, maybe to a younger crowd? I found myself recoiling with secondhand embarrassment rather than finding anything genuinely amusing.

Lastly the bugs, the game is currently extremely buggy, ranging from annoying collision detection and angle of approach bugs to full on crashes.

Doom and Destiny Worlds is definitely great addition for fans of previous entries to the franchise or old school rpg aficionados, for anyone else it could get old quite quickly, but still worth keeping an eye out for a discount in which to pick it up.
