Hot Wheels Unleashed is one of those titles that's finely tuned balance and cross generational appeal probably aren't fully recognized unless you have young kids.
Developer and publisher "Milestone" have created a fantastic and fun racer featuring the famous "Hot Wheels" toys that tap into both the nostalgia of the parent and the contemporary enthusiasm of their kids.
The core game is bright, bold and vibrant. Easy to pick up and play, yet having a similar nuance to Mario Kart in it's mastery.
The various game modes feature single player, head to head with both split screen and online, as well as an adventure mode and daily challenges.
At it's heart though it's racing on wonderful model car sized tracks, bringing the all the imagination and creativity of your childhood to bear in digital form.
Hot Wheels Unleashed definitely shares more DNA with the likes of Mario Kart than it does Forza. It features a lot of different vehicles to unlock, each one with different stats and beautifully rendered, either as a shiny new, or a sightly loved representation of your toys of youth.
It's a ridiculously fun game for almost any age group regardless of ability, but has quite a high skill ceiling on harder levels for those looking for more of a challenge.
There's plenty to keep you occupied for hours with racing and collectables and infinite replayability thanks to it's online or couch co-op, it's a game that's really worth adding to anyone's library.
Hot Wheels Unleashed is available now on Playstation, Xbox, Switch and PC.
