I have been intrigued by this game since I first saw it appear on the Steam store, I eventually bought it in a sale, then again upon it's Switch release and I'm ashamed to say I had't got around to playing it.
That is until now, on it's Oculus release. I think this was serendipitous as this game is ideal for a first playthrough inVR.
The premise is simple, this is trashy daytime TV brought directly into VR and planting you firmly in the driving seat.
You are tasked with renovating homes and sprucing them up, ready to "flip" for a tidy profit.
The game eases you in gently with tasks to introduce you to your toolkit, item store and abilities, as the jobs get bigger so do the rewards.
The biggest difference between playing this on screen and in roomscale VR is the physicality. You have to actually get down and scrub away the dubious stains, pick up the knocked over plants and half eaten apples that are scattered around what looks, for the most part, like student accommodation.
It really isn't long before you work up a bit of a sweat if you're doing it right. Like doing real housework with a heavy plastic second head.
I really enjoyed playing and reviewing House Flipper. But it's a game best enjoyed in short sessions, as with many VR titles. At no point did I feel any nausea and I don't have the strongest VR legs. There is also a genuine sense of pride and achievement when you finish a home transformation.
I am blessed with a young child and a messy wife, so the game was a bit of a busman's holiday for me. Several times I found myself questioning the validity of playing while there were genuine real life things that needed to be scrubbed off the floor.
For many people (like my wife) this could be pure escapism in a fantasy world and for even more (like my son) this will prove a useful training tool for later life!
House Flipper is definitely recommend and is available now on the Oculus Store for $14.99
