Wytchwood a beautiful and unique indie gem

Wytchwood is a game that is as charming as it is beautiful. A bizarre amalgamation of survival, puzzle exploration and point & click that is both mesmerizing and relaxing.

The entire game reminds me of those huge domino rallys you used to see on record-breaker shows. Great care and attention to detail spent in setting everything up, perfect positioning ready to be set off by the previous domino and trigger subsequent ones as they fan off along various paths.

It's an almost perfect analogy for Wytchwood. You play the part of the witch, you awake in your cottage to find that your Grimoire has been eaten by a goat, so you're going to need to rewrite your spells, designs and recipes.

This is usually done by inspecting certain areas of your environment or it's inhabitants using your "witches eye", the eye will reveal a vulnerability, which in turn triggers a recipe entry in your Grimoire, which in turn shows the resources needed to craft it and the equipment needed to gather the resources......phew

See.... the domino effect!

This mechanic is prevalent throughout the game, but never gets tiresome or monotonous, it's used with NPCs and side quests as well as to drive the main narrative; it's been really well thought out and paced to push everything forward, while never being rushed.

Taking your time with this Wytchwood comes organically as you explore the gorgeous, pop-up book like environments. The aesthetics are bright an vibrant in stark contrast to some of the content which can be darkly comedic. The shower of "meaty morsels" as a cute woodland critter is caught in one of your traps, stirs both sympathy and chuckles at the same time, every time.

Wytchwood is easily one of those games that could slip under the radar, but try not to let it, or you'll be missing out on a genuine gem.

It's available now on PC, Playstation, Switch and Xbox (where is currently part of the gamepass lineup).
