Yaga, PC review.

"Smash, clobber and bash the murderous legends of Slavic mythology in this darkly funny action role-playing game that changes every time you play. Play as Ivan, a one-handed blacksmith with incredibly bad luck, who must take on the impossible tasks given to him by the tzar. All the while the mysterious witch, Baba Yaga, watches over Ivan's fate."

Yaga is novel take on an ARPG game from Romanian developers "Breadcrumbs Interactive".

The game oozes both charm and Slavic atmosphere.

Yaga's story explores traditional eastern European folklore and it's centred around Ivan the blacksmith and the eponymous witch Baba Yaga.

The graphics are smoothly animated 2D characters that lend themselves perfectly to the games aesthetic and design.

The music is a fantastic blend of modern beats and Eastern European folk music and the voice acting is top notch.

The controls are slick and responsive and everything about the game plays neatly into the backdrop of Romanian folklore.

The gameplay is fun. There are a number of mechanics at play that synergize in interesting ways.

The crafting system is simple but offers good variety. The bad luck mechanic (which causes your weapons to break if you fill the bad luck meter by using magic) requires careful balancing and adds a new dimension to encounters.

After playing for a while the maps can start to feel a little semi and combat while responsive and enjoyable is repetitive and suffers slightly in that your character sometimes seems not respond to taking damage.

All in all, this is an excellent ARPG and something quite different to try in the genre. A lot of fun and well worth the price.
